When it came time to select a location for our Central region’s Kings Meadow development, we knew that Fernwood in Newark met our high criteria, and here are just some of the reasons why.

The village of Fernwood is just ten minutes outside of Newark, meaning that residents can enjoy the peace and quiet of village life without missing out on the fun and excitement of a thriving town.

Newark was recently named one of the best places to live in the UK by popular guide Muddy Stilettos, who called it “a fantastic place for families and professional couples”, and praised the beautiful Georgian and Victorian architecture, convenient transport links and host of amenities.

Fernwood is surrounded by green open spaces and natural beauty, and residents can enjoy stunning parks nearby. Sconce and Devon Park is just a ten minute drive away from the development and is Newark’s largest open space, featuring a wildlife pond, fitness trail circuit and the star-shaped site of the Queen’s Sconce – one of the country’s finest remaining earthworks from the 17^th century British Civil War.

Driving just ten minutes further will bring residents to Whisby Nature Park, a stunning landscape full of bustling wildlife and beautiful scenery.

Selection of high-quality schools

For families looking to move, the local school options are a crucial consideration. When selecting Fernwood, we were impressed with the wide selection of high-quality schools families in the area can choose from.

Chuter Ede Primary School is rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted and is only a five-minute drive away from our Kings Meadow development. Claypole CofE Primary School is six minutes away and rated ‘Good’, and John Hunt Academy is just three minutes away and also has a ‘Good’ rating. For children in secondary school, there is the excellent The Suthers School, which is perfectly situated just 0.3 miles away.

 Thriving community culture

Fernwood is home to a close-knit community that frequently hosts events and has a wide range of local clubs and groups on offer.

Children aged six to 11 can attend Fernwood Youth Club at the village hall on Friday evenings. Fernwood Sword Club is a family-friendly fencing club that enters regular competitions, and there is also an active wildlife preservation club that is always ready to welcome new members.

Fernwood Foxes is the local youth football team which previously won the first level of the Charter Standard Accreditation, which is awarded for high standards of coaching, administration and child protection.

Family-friendly environment

The peace and quiet of the village, combined with the excellent schools and clubs for children to join, means that Fernwood is a great place to raise a family. There are also a range of activities specifically for parents and young children to enjoy nearby, such as Elston Parent, Baby and Toddler Group which is just 13 minutes away from Kings Meadow, and a baby yoga group just 10 minutes away.
