Allison Homes East donates wood to Men’s Sheds charity

We are proud to have donated spare wood from two of our developments, The Orchards in Corby Glen, Lincolnshire and Harriers Rest in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire to the nearby branches of Men’s Sheds.

The Orchards is a picturesque development comprised of 66 two, three and four bedroom homes in the attractive village of Corby Glen, which currently has a selection of three and four bedroom homes available to purchase. Harriers Rest is located on Lawrence Road and is a charming development comprised of three, four and five bedroom homes, with a selection three and four bedroom properties available.

Men’s Sheds is a charitable organisation that provides a space for men to gather, socialise and engage in hands-on activities, typically woodworking, metalworking and crafts.

Its main aim is to promote mental wellbeing by reducing social isolation, fostering a sense of community and encouraging healthy conversations. The sheds are often open to men of all ages and backgrounds, offering a supportive environment where they can share skills, work on personal projects and build meaningful connections. The movement has grown globally, with local branches focusing on improving men’s health and supporting community initiatives.

The wood from The Orchards was delivered to Grantham Men’s Shed and the group have already begun putting the donation to use by making improvements to the charity’s location, such as putting up racking in the tool store, which would allow members to store their projects away, and moving a wall to create more space in the workshop.

Stephen Featherstone, Chair of Grantham Men’s Shed, said: “On behalf of all the members of the Grantham Men’s Shed we would like to sincerely thank Allison Homes for the donation of the wood.  We have already started using it and have big plans for the remainder that will both improve our operation and give our members projects to work on. We cannot thank them enough.

Our East team also delivered spare wood from Harriers Rest to the Peterborough branch of the organisation, which is known as The People’s Shed, allowing them to use it in whatever way suits them best.

Steven Smith, Chair of The People’s Shed, said: “The support from Allison Homes with this donation of wood is fantastic, and really appreciated.  It will enable a variety of projects to be undertaken, such as creating the structure for an external shelter in Railworld Wildlife Haven where the Shed is located.

Andy Richards, Construction Director at Allison Homes East, said: “We are very proud to be supporting Men’s Sheds with these donations. It is an excellent organisation that does truly valuable work in the community and it’s great to see surplus materials put to good use. We look forward to finding more opportunities such as this in the future and wish both branches the best of luck with their projects.
