Construction is underway on 150 new homes in Landkey

Work is officially underway at Tarka Coombe, the new 150-home development in Landkey, North Devon as Allison Homes South West breaks ground on the site.

This milestone follows the approval of planning permission earlier this year and signals the next step in delivering much-needed homes for North Devon.

Tarka Coombe will include a mix of one- to four-bedroom homes, all taken from the new Allison Homes house type portfolio with 30% designated as affordable housing. The first homes are due for completion early 2026, with the development expected to be completed by the end of 2028. Public promotion of the development will commence in Autumn 2025

John Phillips, Build Director for Allison Homes South West commented: “After securing planning, we’re thrilled to commence works on-site. Breaking ground is a significant milestone for our team and the local community.

This marks the start of delivering high-quality, energy-efficient homes that will meet the needs of a growing population in and around the Landkey, Barnstaple and Bideford areas.

As construction progresses, we look forward to creating a place to live that supports community wellbeing, enhances the natural environment and contributes positively to the local economy.

Representatives from Allison Homes and JAO Groundworks gathered at the site this week to mark the ground-breaking, which has commenced with infrastructure works and preparing the land in readiness for a house build start.

Located on the edge of the village, Tarka Coombe has been thoughtfully designed to reflect its rural setting. The scheme includes significant public green space, a new play area, and a community orchard, all of which will enhance local biodiversity and provide new connections to the 180-mile Tarka Trail.

The development is expected to support over 500 jobs across its lifespan and contribute to the long-term growth of the local economy.

Future residents at Tarka Coombe will be a short walk away from Landkey village centre, which offers a pub, post office and community centre. Families will also appreciate the proximity of the local Ofsted-rated ‘good’ primary school. The bustling town of Barnstaple is a 10-minute drive away, while Exeter is easily reached via the North Devon Link Road and the M5.
