Allison Homes East Midlands volunteers improve Cotgrave Country Park nature trail
Members of our East Midlands team have completed the second volunteering activity as part of our ‘Allison in Action’ initiative, with team members helping to improve access to the Nature Trail at Cotgrave Country Park.
Our Technical Coordinator, Alex Brindley, and Technical Manager, Carter Newbury, recently spent the morning volunteering alongside the Friends of Cotgrave Country Park.
During the session, the team helped improve a section of the Nature Trail that can become wet and muddy during periods of poor weather, making it difficult for visitors to use.
The work involved digging trenches alongside and across the path, before installing a run of perforated land drain and clean stone to help collect and drain away groundwater. The improvements will enable the path to dry out ahead of new surfacing being laid, helping to provide better access to the trail, bird feeding station and seated viewing area.
The volunteering day marked the second activity under ‘Allison in Action’, our year-long programme that sees employees in the East Midlands region dedicate time each month to supporting charities, community groups and local organisations close to our developments.
The Friends of Cotgrave Country Park was chosen due to its close proximity to our Hayes View development in Cotgrave, where we are delivering a collection of 45 energy-efficient three and four bedroom homes.
Lee Scudder, Countryside Parks Officer, at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “We were very pleased to be joined by volunteers from Allison Homes, who worked alongside members of the Friends of Cotgrave Country Park to help improve our new Nature Trail.
“The activity has greatly improved access along the trail and into the viewing area, where visitors can sit and enjoy the bird feeding station and watch wildlife at close quarters. We’d like to thank the Allison Homes team for their support.”
Emma Weston, Sales Director at Allison Homes East Midlands, said: “It was fantastic to see Alex and Carter getting stuck in and supporting the Friends of Cotgrave Country Park with such an important improvement to the Nature Trail.
“Through ‘Allison in Action’, we want to make a meaningful contribution to the communities surrounding our developments, and projects like this are a great example of how our teams can use their time to make a real difference.
“We’d like to thank the Friends of Cotgrave Country Park for welcoming our volunteers and for the fantastic work they continue to do to protect and improve this important green space for the local community.”
Throughout the next 10 months, we will continue to support charities, community groups and local organisations across Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire through the ‘Allison in Action’ programme.
