Allison Homes East reaches highest levels of energy efficiency at two developments with an EPC rating of A
In our East region we are promoting sustainable living at two of our developments, one in Peterborough and one in King’s Lynn, where all the homes have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of A.
The Peterborough development, called Abbey Park, is in the village of Thorney and consists of a stunning range of 68 three and four bedroom detached homes, which all feature solar panels and EV charging points as standard.
In South Wootton, on the edge of King’s Lynn, our Wootton Grange is a brand-new, mixed tenure development which will consist of 450 stunning three, four and five bedroom homes. Alongside new homes and a thriving community, the development will be environmentally diverse and feature 390 trees, over 2,750 shrubs and over 6,750 hedge plants.
An EPC rating is used to measure a building’s energy efficiency. Properties receive a score from A to G, with A being at the top of the scale and demonstrating that the home reaches the highest levels of energy efficiency.
On average, 86 per cent of new build homes are rated A or B, whereas less than five per cent of older homes have the same score1. Just over seven per cent of new homes are rated A, compared to only 0.30 per cent of existing properties1.
The homes at both Abbey Park and Wootton Grange have achieved this rating due to the use of solar panels.
Our properties at Abbey Park also feature systems called Waste Water Heat Recovery (WWHR) and Flue Gas Heat Recovery (FGHR). The WWHR system re-uses heat from hot water that would usually run down the drain after a shower to pre-heat the fresh, cold water coming into the home.
A Flue Gas Heat Recovery (FGHR) device collects heat which would normally go through the flue (a duct or pipe) and be wasted. This heat is recycled back through the boiler to help heat up cold water. By using both WWHR and FGHR systems, the boiler doesn’t need to work as hard to heat water up, resulting in lower energy bills.
At Wootton Grange, air source heat pumps are installed instead of traditional gas boilers. Air source heat pumps work by taking heat from the outside air, increasing its temperature and then transferring it into water, which is used to heat the home or heat water for taps, showers and baths. These heat pumps have no demand on natural gases and can reduce carbon emissions.
By purchasing a new build house, homeowners can save over £1,980 a year and £165 a month on their energy bills1. These savings result in residents having energy bills that are 65 per cent cheaper than bills for older properties1.
Kelly Toms, Sales and Marketing Director at Allison Homes East, said: “We take pride in providing people with homes that are energy efficient and sustainable, so our residents can live more comfortably and benefit from having lower bills.
“All our homes are carefully designed, and at both Abbey Park and Wootton Grange they feature superior insulation, heating systems and low energy appliances and lighting. We would encourage anyone who is looking to move to a brand-new home to get in touch with our sales team and find out how they can enjoy an eco-friendly lifestyle at either Abbey Park or Wootton Grange.”
