Allison Homes invites homebuyers to learn more about their local area during Heritage Open Days

Across all our regions, we are inviting property seekers to learn more about the culture and traditions of the local area they are living in or looking to live in, during this year’s Heritage Open Days.

Heritage Open Days is a campaign running from Friday 8th to Sunday 17th September, where volunteers organise events to celebrate the history and culture around the country.

Our South West region is encouraging people to visit the Finch Foundry in Okehampton, Devon, which is near to our High Moor View development. The Finch Foundry was a mainstay of Dartmoor’s industrial landscape for 150 years, producing 400 tools a day. Visitors will be able to visit the waterwheels, working forge, grinding house, carpenters’ workshop and gallery museum. Those interested in visiting the Finch Foundry are encouraged to book their tours ahead of Sunday 17th September.

In Norfolk, close to The Oaks, Allison Homes Eastern Counties is promoting the 1923 and All That talk hosted by Jonathon Hooton. The talk is designed to teach Norfolk residents about the decision that ultimately led to the inception of The Norwich Society, that has since gone on to protect an array of Norwich landmarks.

Allison Homes Central region is inviting residents from its Frampton Gate development to visit the Angels and Architecture to see one of the last works by Sir Ninian Comper and William Bucknell, the St Gilbert, and St Hugh’s Church.  The church has four Belgian angels which were carved by refugees in WW1, that still stand today. The open day is from 10:30am – 4:00pm on Saturday 9th September.

For a fun family day out, Allison Homes Central region is also shining a spotlight on the Creatively Unwrapped at Newark Castle, Saturday 9th September from 10am – 4:00pm, which is local to Kings Meadow. The day will feature storyteller Nicky Rafferty who will tell ‘castle-tastic’ tales with eco-friendly crafts. There is also the chance to explore Newark Castle above and below ground.

Kelly Toms, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for Allison Homes Central, said: “We are encouraging prospective buyers to visit these Heritage Open Days, so they can learn more about the local history and culture of the areas they want to move into.”
