Four chocolate treats to make in your new kitchen this World Chocolate Day
Is there ever a bad excuse to make something chocolatey? We didn’t think so.
World Chocolate Day is the perfect reason to switch on the oven, dig out the mixing bowls and let your kitchen do what it does best: bring people together over something sweet.
At Allison Homes, we love seeing our kitchens put to good use, whether that’s preparing a quick treat for the children after school, baking something to enjoy with a cup of tea or creating an impressive dessert for when friends and family come round.
This year, we’ve brought together four brilliantly chocolatey recipes, from warm brownie squares to individual trifles that can be assembled in minutes.
Grab your apron and discover what’s on the menu.
White chocolate chunk brownies
Makes 20 squares | Preparation: Under 30 minutes | Baking: 25 minutes
Deep, rich and filled with chunks of melted white chocolate, these brownies are guaranteed crowd-pleasers. Slice them into squares and share them with friends, neighbours or family, or enjoy one warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
You’ll need:
- 375g butter
- 375g dark chocolate
- 6 free range eggs
- 350g caster sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 225g plain flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 250g white chocolate, roughly chopped
- Icing sugar, to decorate, if desired
How to make them:
- Preheat the oven to 180°C, 170°C fan or Gas Mark 4.
- Line the base and sides of a large 33cm by 23cm baking tin with baking paper.
- Place the butter and dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of gently simmering water. Make sure the base of the bowl doesn’t touch the water, then allow everything to melt together.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, caster sugar and vanilla extract until combined.
- Leave the melted chocolate mixture to cool slightly, then whisk in the egg mixture.
- Sift in the flour and salt before gently folding everything together.
- Stir through the chopped white chocolate and pour the mixture into the prepared tin.
- Bake for approximately 25 minutes, then leave to cool slightly in the tin.
- Cut into squares while still warm and finish with a dusting of icing sugar, if desired.
Tip: Serve with fresh berries or vanilla ice cream for an indulgent dessert.

No-bake chocolate cheesecake
Serves 10 | Preparation and setting: More than two hours | No baking required
This rich chocolate cheesecake looks impressive but requires no time in the oven. With a crunchy chocolate biscuit base, silky filling and decorative chocolate topping, it’s ideal for celebrations or dinner with friends.
You’ll need:
- 200g chocolate digestive biscuits, crushed
- 75g butter, melted and cooled slightly
- 800g cream cheese
- Icing sugar, to taste
- 400g milk chocolate, or a mixture of milk and dark chocolate
- 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
- 50g white chocolate
How to make it:
- Mix the crushed biscuits with the melted butter until well combined.
- Spoon the mixture into a 23cm springform tin and press it down firmly to create a flat, even base.
- In a separate bowl, mix the cream cheese with icing sugar to taste.
- Melt the milk chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of gently simmering water.
- Pour around one-quarter of the melted chocolate into a jug, stir in the vegetable oil and keep it warm for decorating later.
- Add the cream cheese mixture to the remaining chocolate one spoonful at a time, mixing well after each addition until smooth.
- Spoon the filling over the biscuit base and smooth the top.
- Chill in the fridge for 20 minutes, or until the surface begins to firm.
- Melt the white chocolate, then pour the reserved milk chocolate over the cheesecake and spread it evenly across the top.
- Drizzle lines of white chocolate across the surface and use a cocktail stick to create a decorative feathered pattern.
- Leave the cheesecake in a cool place to set for approximately two hours.
- Carefully remove it from the tin and serve in slices.
Tip: Add the icing sugar gradually and taste the mixture as you go, as the chocolate already provides plenty of sweetness.
