Allison Homes East partners with Lighthouse Charity to support construction wellbeing

Supporting the wellbeing of our people is a core part of who we are at Allison Homes, and forms an essential part of the safe, positive working environments we aim to create across all our developments.

Last month, employees and subcontractors at our Wootton Grange development met with the Lighthouse Charity and its #MakeItVisible On Site team to take part in an engaging wellbeing session.

Wootton Grange sits within the scenic Norfolk village of South Wootton, and offers a collection of high quality three, four and five bedroom homes close to the historic market town of King’s Lynn.

The session, organised by our subcontractor Bateman Groundworks, gave the construction team a space to learn more about mental health, understand the range of free support services available and explore how open conversations can help create a healthier working environment.

The Lighthouse Charity provides round the clock holistic support for workers across the construction industry, focusing on emotional, physical and financial wellbeing. The charity offers a confidential helpline, a live web chat service, a text support facility, a self-support app and peer support groups known as Lighthouse Beacons.

The charity’s #MakeItVisible On Site outreach brings a team of experienced tradespeople to construction sites throughout the UK. Their aim is to connect directly with site teams, raise awareness of key wellbeing issues and ensure workers know where to turn for help.

During the session at Wootton Grange, our workforce took part in an open and honest discussion about mental health, workplace pressures and looking out for colleagues. The visit encouraged everyone to reflect on their own wellbeing, challenge stigma and feel more confident in reaching out for help when needed.

The Lighthouse Charity has visited more than 500 sites this year and engaged with over 28,000 operatives through its #MakeItVisible outreach.

We have proudly supported the Lighthouse Charity since 2023, helping the organisation continue delivering vital outreach work across the construction industry.

Michele Raucci, Build Director at Allison Homes East, said: “We were very pleased to have the Lighthouse Charity visit Wootton Grange for this important wellbeing session. Our construction teams work incredibly hard and it is essential that they feel supported, understood and able to access help whenever they need it. This session is one of many ways we work with the Lighthouse Charity throughout the year to keep our teams informed and supported.

The #MakeItVisible team delivers a powerful and relatable message, and we are grateful for the work they do in supporting people across our industry.

Sarah Bolton, CEO of the Lighthouse Charity, said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to Allison Homes for hosting our team and ensuring our message of support reaches their site operatives who may otherwise not know how or where to reach out for support.

So far this year, our teams have over 500 sites and met with over 28,000 site operatives. This initiative addresses the barriers within the sector through an informal approach, letting people know that they are not alone in dealing with work and life challenges.

We need to reduce the stigma of people speaking up and reaching out for help. And it makes all the difference when people hear our team’s words, ‘I’ve been where you are, I know how you feel and there is help available’.
