Allison Homes marks International Walk to School Month by donating 750 hi-vis bag tags

To mark International Walk to School Month this October, we’ve donated 750 hi-vis bag tags to five primary schools located close to our Central and East Midlands developments, helping to support safer journeys to and from school.

International Walk to School Month takes place throughout October and celebrates the benefits of walking and wheeling to school where possible, from helping children stay active to reducing the number of vehicles around school gates.

Our Central team donated 150 hi-vis bag tags to Alderman Jacobs Primary School in Whittlesey, located near our Violet Meadows development, and 150 to Priors Hall – A Learning Community, which is situated within the wider Priors Hall Park community where we are delivering 161 new homes.

A further 150 bag tags were donated to Eye CofE Primary School, located close to our upcoming Colliers Rest development in Eye, where we will deliver 265 new homes.

Our East Midlands team also donated 150 hi-vis bag tags to Stanton under Bardon Community Primary School, near our St Mary’s Chase development, and 150 to Oxley Primary School in Shepshed, close to our Finney Meadows development.

The bag tags are designed to be attached to pupils’ school bags, helping to improve visibility during darker mornings and evenings, particularly during the winter months, and on busy routes surrounding schools.

The donations support the aims of International Walk to School Month by helping pupils remain more visible when making active journeys to school, while forming part of our ongoing commitment to supporting local schools, families and the communities surrounding our developments.

Eye CofE Primary School, said: “Thank you to Allison Homes for their generous donation of reflective bag tags for our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils. These will help improve visibility for our children as they walk to and from school, particularly during the darker months. We really appreciate this thoughtful support for our school community.”

Martin Fry, Headteacher at Alderman Jacobs Primary School, said: “A big thank you to Allison Homes for the donation of the reflective bag tags. Our Eco Energy Squad has been exploring ways to encourage more children to walk and cycle to school.

“One of these is our WOW (Walk On Wednesday) Bus, where parents drop their children off around half a mile from Alderman Jacobs, allowing them to walk the rest of the journey together. The reflective bag tags will be given to every child who joins the walking bus this term, helping them to be more visible on their journey.”

Teighan Ridge, Administrator at Priors Hall – A Learning Community, said: “We were delighted to receive the reflective bag tags from Allison Homes and know they will be a useful addition for our pupils. It’s lovely to see local organisations supporting our children in such a practical way, and we hope the tags will encourage them to take extra care when travelling around our community.”

Rebecca Rosie, Senior Administrator at Stanton under Bardon Community Primary School, said: “We were delighted to receive the hi-vis bag tags from Allison Homes. They are a great way of helping our pupils stay safe and visible when travelling to and from school, while also reinforcing the importance of road safety.”

Mr Caldwell, Headteacher at Oxley Primary School, said: “At the start of the new school year, we distributed the reflective bag tags to all of our KS1 pupils. The tags can be attached to their school bags and will help make our children more visible when walking to and from school, particularly as the mornings and evenings become darker.

“We hope they will provide additional visibility and help keep our children safe on their journeys to and from school.”

Kelly Toms, Sales and Marketing Director at Allison Homes Central, said: “International Walk to School Month is a valuable opportunity to highlight the benefits of active journeys and the importance of helping pupils stay visible on their way to and from school.

“These hi-vis bag tags are a simple but practical way to support local families, particularly as the mornings and evenings become darker. We’re pleased to support Alderman Jacobs Primary School, Priors Hall – A Learning Community and Eye CofE Primary School, and hope the donations will be useful for pupils.”

Emma Weston, Sales Director at Allison Homes East Midlands, added: “We’re really pleased to support International Walk to School Month by donating these hi-vis bag tags to Stanton under Bardon Community Primary School and Oxley Primary School.

“As we continue to build new homes close to both schools, it’s important to us that we also support the wider communities around our developments. We hope the tags will help pupils stay more visible when walking or wheeling to school throughout the darker months.”

We’re proud to support local pupils and families across Whittlesey, Corby, Eye, Stanton under Bardon and Shepshed through this simple but practical initiative.
