Allison Homes team takes on 47 mile ultra marathon to raise £20,000 for Diabetes UK
We’re proud to share that three members of our team are preparing to take on a demanding endurance challenge this September, as part of a major fundraising effort for Diabetes UK.
Our colleagues Andy Richards, Georgina McCrae and Steve Lapthorne will be completing The Lap Challenge on 11th September, a 47 mile ultra marathon around Lake Windermere, with the aim of raising £20,000 for the charity.
The challenge will see the team attempt to circumnavigate England’s largest lake within 24 hours, tackling almost 8,500 feet of elevation across completely ungroomed trails in the Lake District. The route is widely regarded as one of the UK’s toughest endurance events, testing both physical and mental resilience.
Diabetes remains one of the most significant health challenges in the UK, affecting millions of people every day. More than 4.6 million adults are currently diagnosed, with a further 1.3 million undiagnosed and an estimated 6.3 million people living with pre-diabetes. This means around one in five adults are either living with diabetes or at high risk of developing the condition.
Within the construction sector alone, it’s estimated that more than 400,000 people are affected or at risk, many of whom may be unaware. This highlights the importance of raising awareness, encouraging early action and supporting vital research.
By taking on The Lap Challenge, our team hopes to not only raise funds, but also help shine a light on the impact of diabetes across the industry and wider communities.
Georgina McCrae, Planning Director at Allison Homes Central, said: “Taking on The Lap is a huge personal and team commitment, but it’s one we’re incredibly motivated by. Diabetes affects so many people, and we want to do our part to raise both awareness and vital funds.
“We’ve recently completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks, which covered around half the distance and elevation, and it’s given us a real taste of what’s to come. Pushing ourselves through such a tough endurance event feels like a fitting way to support a cause that impacts millions across the UK, including many within our own industry. We’re proud to be taking this on together and hope others will get behind us on the journey.”
Adam Knight, Managing Director at Allison Homes Central, said: “We are incredibly proud of Andy, Georgina and Steve for taking on such a demanding challenge in support of Diabetes UK. Their commitment reflects the values we hold as a business, not only in supporting important causes, but in raising awareness of issues that affect so many people across our industry and communities.“This is a fantastic initiative, and we’re right behind them as they work towards their £20,000 target. We would encourage everyone to get involved and show their support.”
