Zoe Evans promoted to Group Human Resources Director at Allison Homes
As part of Allison Homes’ ongoing investment in its leadership team to support strategic growth, Zoe Evans has been promoted to Group Human Resources Director.
Zoe began her career in the travel industry, joining as a YTS apprentice and progressing to Regional Sales Manager, where she oversaw 32 retail travel stores. During this time, she discovered a strong passion for people management, commenting: “If people are given clear objectives, the right training, support when they are unsure, and a safe environment, strong results will follow.” Following the completion of a degree in human resources, Zoe moved into the field, gaining experience as an HR Manager across several different industries.
Reflecting on her move into housebuilding and construction, Zoe said: “I joined Allison Homes because of the values and culture being driven by CEO John Anderson, which really resonated with me. The industry is traditional in its processes and procedures, yet there is a strong appetite to evolve. Over the last few years, I have seen significant modernisation across the sector.”
Zoe joined Allison Homes three years ago as Head of HR, a hands-on role with a strong strategic focus. As the business has progressed with its ambitious growth plans, the HR function has expanded in parallel to support a growing workforce across multiple sites and offices. Following several senior leadership promotions, including Julia Brass to Group Marketing Director, Zoe was a natural choice to step into the role of Group Human Resources Director.
Commenting on her promotion, Zoe added: “I was extremely proud to be given the opportunity to continue leading our people strategy over the next few years. I am keen to ensure we keep strengthening our people offering and position Allison Homes as an employer of choice within the industry.”
With an acute skills shortage across the construction sector, Allison Homes is focused on developing early talent through apprenticeship opportunities and by building strong relationships with colleges, universities, and schools to promote the breadth of careers available. Zoe explained: “There are so many different roles within construction, from sourcing and purchasing land, through the commercial and technical teams, to construction, sales, and customer care. We are also continuously improving our processes and strengthening relationships with our supply chain partners, ensuring they feel part of the wider Allison Homes team.”
Allison Homes remains committed to building a sustainable talent pipeline through apprenticeships, graduate schemes, and upskilling programmes. “We actively work with universities to attract new talent into the business, which supports our commitment to developing and promoting people from within whenever opportunities arise”, Zoe said.
With a dispersed workforce across sites and offices, Zoe and the HR team work closely with the Health and Safety team to ensure employees have access to essential resources and support. “Allison Homes partners with the Lighthouse Charity, which provides mental health support both online and through in-person site visits. We have also implemented mental health first aiders across the business, alongside an open-door policy from the HR team. Through our ‘Your Voice’ employee forum, colleagues are encouraged to share ideas on how we can continue to improve the workplace.”
Following a refreshed brand and the relaunch of its Vision and Values in 2024, Allison Homes’ ambition is to be ‘known as the homebuilder you can trust’. These values are embedded across the business and form a key part of the employee lifecycle. Zoe explained: “Our values are integrated into our performance management and appraisal system, and we ensure that all leadership development programmes, whether delivered internally or by external providers, align with them.”
Promoting women in construction is a core HR initiative at Allison Homes, supporting greater visibility and accessibility of careers within housebuilding. Zoe added: “We actively promote women working across the business, from apprentices through to site managers. This is reflected on our website, through our marketing activity, and during our engagement with schools and careers fairs.”
As Allison Homes progresses towards its ambition of building 2,000 homes annually, Zoe’s priorities for the HR function include maintaining a strong, values-led culture and continuing to develop people across the organisation. “Alongside a competitive benefits offering, a strong culture will help us attract and retain talent”, she explained. “Developing our people, promoting from within, and continuing to invest in apprenticeships and graduate opportunities remain key focuses,” Zoe added. “With upcoming changes to employment law, there is also a significant HR agenda ahead over the coming months.”
John Anderson, Group CEO of Allison Homes, said: “Zoe has been instrumental in building a strong, values-led culture at Allison Homes. Her strategic approach, combined with her commitment to developing our people, makes her a natural choice for this promotion. I’m extremely proud to see her step into the role of Group Human Resources Director as we continue to grow the business.”
