As a Technical Manager at Allison Homes, report into the Head of Engineering, you will be responsible for managing the design and technical delivery process from land acquisition through to site delivery, ensuring buildability, compliance, commercial efficiency, and design quality.

You will help lead the regional Technical team, manage external consultants, and collaborate closely with internal departments including Land, Planning, Commercial, Construction, and Sales. Your focus will be on delivering commercially viable and technically robust schemes on time and to standard, while contributing to the strategic direction of the region’s technical function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical delivery from land viability to handover, managing architectural, engineering, and infrastructure design; coordinate disciplines for buildable, cost-effective solutions; maintain programme adherence; ensure compliance with Building Regulations, planning consents, NHBC standards, and statutory approvals.

  • Provide technical input to land appraisals, feasibility studies, and bid meetings; advise on abnormal costs, constraints, and mitigations; support planning submissions with coordinated technical packs.

  • Oversee and review external consultants for value, quality, and timeliness; maintain strong relationships with statutory bodies, local authorities, utilities, and warranty providers.

  • Ensure designs enable safe construction, operation, and maintenance; champion sustainability, environmental objectives, and consistent design quality across developments.

  • Support regional strategy and technical budgets; identify and mitigate risks; introduce innovative, industry-best practices to technical solutions and systems.

What you will bring

  • Extensive senior technical/design management experience in residential housebuilding; proven success leading multi-site technical delivery; deep knowledge of planning legislation, Building Regulations, NHBC/LABC requirements, and technical standards; strong grasp of engineering, architecture, land acquisition, and viability assessments; track record in leadership, coaching, and mentoring.

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Architecture, Civil Engineering, or similar (RIBA, MICE, CIOB); HNC/HND acceptable with significant experience; CSCS Managerial/Professional card (preferred); SMSTS desirable; full UK driving licence.

  • Strategic yet hands-on problem solver; commercially astute with strong project management skills; excellent communicator and relationship builder; able to work under pressure and prioritise effectively; passionate about quality, innovation, and customer-focused delivery; committed to company values – Trust, Teamwork, Kindness, and Passion.
