Spring cleaning tips for new homeowners
Spring is the perfect time to give your home a deep clean, so you can enjoy the sunshine in a house that is fresh and tidy. To help you tackle the big spring clean, we’re sharing our top five spring cleaning tips.
Charlotte Barber, Sales Manager at Allison Homes, said: “Having a clean and tidy space where you can fully relax after a long day is hugely important, and spring is the perfect time to give your home a refresh.
“Cleaning your home from top to bottom can be overwhelming, especially for new homeowners, so we hope that our top tips help you figure out where to start.”
Tip 1: Collate your supplies
Before getting started with deep cleaning your home, gather everything you may need so it’s all within reach. There are countless cleaning products that you can rely on to get the job done, such as an all-purpose cleaner. Kitchen items can also come in handy, as baking soda can be used to dissolve unwanted grease and dirt, and lemons can help to lift stains and limescale.
Tip 2: Declutter each room
Although it may be a daunting task, reorganising every room will make your home into a relaxing environment. Decluttering is a great task to do first, as you can ensure that any unwanted junk isn’t in the way when you’re trying to wipe down surfaces and tidy up cupboards.
Take on one room at a time by separating clutter into ‘keep’ and ‘toss’ piles, to keep the process as manageable as possible.
Tip 3: Dust and wipe down surfaces
Spend some time cleaning the windows, wiping down walls and skirting boards, and dusting furnishings like light switches and door handles, to make sure every inch of your home is thoroughly cleaned and to remove any grease, grime and fingerprints. Spray cleaner directly onto your cloth to avoid leaving behind drip marks, and work from top to bottom.
Tip 4: Remove stains from kitchen appliances
Once you’ve completed the bigger tasks, take some time to deep clean all the kitchen appliances you use on a daily basis, including your microwave, kettle and oven. Cleaning the oven is a task many prefer to put off, but it can easily be achieved with the use of a specially-made oven cleaner. Give the inside of your oven and oven racks a thorough wipe to ensure it’s all sparkling and ready to go.
Tip 5: Give your garden some TLC
As well as cleaning the inside of your home, give you garden some extra care too. Sweep up any fallen leaves or weeds, shake out your doormat and clean your patio furniture, to make your outside spaces ready for entertaining over the spring and summer months.
