Help to Buy
Your new home is within reach – get moving with as little as 5% deposit
The government-backed Help to Buy scheme is available to first-time buyers of selected new homes across the country – enabling you to buy a brand new Allison Homes property with just a 5% deposit.
Why choose Help to Buy?
The new scheme will run from April 2021 to March 2023 and is managed by regional Help to Buy agents. They can guide you through your purchase, from providing general information about the scheme to helping you with your application.
Under the new scheme, the government will lend buyers up to 20% of the cost of a newly-built home (and up to 40% in London). A 5% deposit and a mortgage makes up the rest of the purchase price.
Help to Buy is available to first-time buyers only, who will benefit from not paying any interest on the loan for the first five years.
Regional Price Caps
Help to Buy has different regional price limits, which means how much you can spend on your home will depend on which part of the country it is in.
|Region||Price cap for Help to Buy
homes April 2021 to March 2023
|Yorkshire and The Humber||£228,100|
|East of England||£407,400|
About the loan
You won’t be charged interest on the equity loan for the first five years. Interest fees start at 1.75% and rise each year in April by the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) plus 2%. You pay a monthly management fee of £1 for the life of the equity loan.
An equity loan is secured against your property in the same way as a repayment mortgage. You must repay the equity loan when you sell the home, pay off your repayment mortgage or reach the end of your equity loan term. You can, however, repay all or part of the equity loan any time before then.
To find out more about the scheme and how to apply, you may wish to download the homebuyers guide to Help to Buy: Equity Loan (2021-2023) from the government’s website.
